My latest devotional adventure with the Lord is to paraphrase a new psalm every day. It’s super fun–feel free to try it! This is my paraphrase of Psalm 27:
God is my nightlight,
My glow-in-the-dark Daddy,
The Person who makes me be not scared.
God is my treefort,
My playhouse,
My secret hideout,
The Place who makes me be not scared
When the bad guys come,
The monsters who want to eat me,
My Daddy God trips them
If all the bad guys in the world
Come and try to get me
At the same time,
My Daddy God will still make me be not scared
He gave me all the wishes in the world
But I only asked for One Wish:
I asked for Him to stay with me forever
And play with me all the time,
Every single day.
I just asked for Him.
Because Daddy scoops me up high
And tucks me in tight
And swings me ‘round fast,
And when He picks me up, my head is up higher
Than all the barking dogs in the world,
And I can smile down at them
And sing happy songs for Daddy.
Hear me, Daddy God, when I start crying
And when I holler Your name.
You told all of us to come look for You
My heart wants to look for You
My heart wants to find You
I’m coming.
Don’t hide.
Don’t be mad at me.
You’re the One who helps me.
Don’t leave me.
My other mommy and daddy aren’t here anymore,
And You let me move in with You.
Teach me how to live Your way,
And take my hand and show me where we’re going,
And please take me there on the flat sidewalks
That I won’t trip on
So no one will laugh at me,
Because the bad guys would love to knock me down.
I’m going to see the good things my Daddy God will do for me;
I’m going to see them here, before I die.
Everybody, wait for Him!
And tell your heart it’s OK to be brave
Because you’re waiting for Him.
