I started journaling “conversations” with God eight years ago. Since then, this “two-way journaling” has become one of my very favorite devotional practices.
But for most of those eight years, I have been very, very hesitant to share my journaling with anyone but my very closest friends. It took a long time for me to become confident that this was a Biblical practice, even though I am confident now.
And many days, I spread out my notebook and pen and Bible, and ended up sitting back in awe at God and thinking, “This is so, so good, it can’t just be for me. I know He’s going to want me to share this with others someday.”
“Courage has a sound. It’s the sound of your voice.” I heard that quote in a talk by Katie Luse, and I know this is the time.
So I have decided to post thirty days of devotions excerpted from my two-way journaling.
There are many, many topics, but the primary theme is the Lord showing me the ways in which He does want me to “love myself.” About a year ago, I realized I was believing all these lies, like that all forms of loving myself are bad, it’s a virtue to be hard on myself, it’s pride to like myself and humility to hate myself, etc. etc.
And what I really want is to “learn from Jesus” (Matthew 11:29), so for months I came to Him in daily journaling with the question, “Lord Jesus, what do You want to say to me about the way You love Yourself and the way You want me to love myself?” I asked the question, got quiet, and wrote down what He brought to my mind.
And boy, did He take me on a life-changing tour from Genesis to Revelation and “transform me through the renewing of my mind” (Romans 12:2)! I have certainly not been the same. So I have assembled thirty readings to share from those life-changing journal entries. You can sign up and subscribe to get them delivered straight to your inbox.
I hope that it will bless you to eavesdrop on some of my conversations with God. I also hope it will inspire you to grab a pen and paper and dare to start writing down some of your own.
